Why You Should Book a Live Saxophone Player

So you’re putting together the pieces for your dream wedding or event, and it’s time to decide on musical entertainment. While this can (and should!) be a fun part of the planning process, it’s also something that takes time and evaluation. Do you go with a live musician, a live band, a DJ, a hybrid band performance? Here are some of the reasons why a live saxophonist could be a great fit for your special day.

A Live Saxophone Player Can Perform Many Genres

When you picture a live saxophonist, you may instantly think of jazz music. And while jazz does sound great on the sax, it’s just the beginning of what the instrument has to offer. A skilled live saxophone player can also deliver cool renditions of pop songs, play along to atmospheric house music, or solo over RnB. This allows the sax to fit into a wide range of different situations. Whether you’re looking for mellow mood music to “fill a room” or a high energy focal point, a live saxophonist can make it happen.

Easily Integrate a Live Saxophonist into Your Event

Sometimes when I’m contacted to play sax at events, most or even all of the other entertainment is already in place. And that’s fine by me! Because a live saxophonist generally has limited audio equipment needs as well as a small physical footprint, there are usually minimal obstacles to making them part of your wedding or event.

As long as they’re talented and flexible, you can add a live saxophone player to a DJ set or cocktail hour without much logistical planning at all. And if you’ve ever planned an event, you know that there’s LOTS of logistics involved – the more you can simplify, the easier it will be to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.

A Sax Player Can Move to the Music – Or WITH the Event

A high degree of mobility while playing means that a live saxophonist can roam your event while they perform. This allows for mingling with guests during cocktail hour - or a more extended and energetic stay on the dance floor. Personally, I usually play with my wireless microphone setup as it gives me almost complete freedom of movement.

Instrument portability also means that a live saxophone player can easily get around at your event. Sometimes, I’ll set up in one area for cocktail hour, then break down and move to another room or building for reception. When necessary, this breakdown and setup can be done quite quickly.

Amplification Isn’t Required

Unlike many other instruments, a live saxophone doesn’t necessarily require amplification in order to be heard clearly. This can come in handy in remote settings, or at venues that have no-amplification rules. If you’re looking for the clarity and beauty of an acoustic instrument, you’ll definitely want to consider live sax.
